Boise State University Student Union Building

The State of Idaho and Boise State University commissioned LCA Architects to expand and renovate the Student Union Building. To adequately meet the demands of the campus, the SUB needed to increase capacity in all programs and services, with particular emphasis on conference services, bookstore, food service, and student involvement.
Planning requirements included maintaining operations with as little interruption as possible during construction. Among the many changes, the redesigned SUB includes a new Table Rock Café with an additional 125 seats, a performance area just outside, a new kitchen for Table Rock and a 9,000 sf. ballroom. The Bookstore increased its retail space by approximately 7,000 square feet and included a new storefront on the south end of the building.
The vision is creative and thoroughly modern with “high architectural expression” that reflects campus culture. The plan incorporates current technology and provides a flexible infrastructure for future technology.
“The Student Union is fortunate to have established a partnership with LCA Architects. LCA’s dedication, vision and creativity has resulted in a premiere facility for Boise State University and our community. Their pride and ownership of each project has always exceeded our expectations.”-Jack Rahmann, Director, Student Union Boise State University
