Boise State University Student Union Information Desk

After a large expansion of the Boise State University Student Union building, it was deemed necessary to examine the usability of the existing information desk to determine how the University can serve the building users better and improve wayfinding through the corridors.
LCA Architects collaborated with the Boise State staff to determine the requirements for providing an improved experience for students and visitors. The usage of the existing desk itself was outdated and the need for integration of new technology was great. By combining the Student Id services into the design freed up adjacent space and allowed students to minimize stops needed within the building to access services.
A new design within the basic footprint of the old desk emerged creating a bolder more vibrant element within the space, that is easily visible by prospective students and their families who may need assistance.
The new layout maximized staff numbers by allowing one person to service multiple guest queuing lines.
With LCA’s knowledge of the Student Union material palette, the new design was flawlessly incorporated into the feel of the existing spaces. Custom designed resin faced signage and soffit elements were backlit to create a glow and attract your eye from long distances down the expansive halls.
The result is a more efficient information desk that serves as a beacon within the crossroads of the Student Union and a basis for future upgrades at other points within the space.
