Sustaining Our Planet

Sustainable_2“Sustaining our planet” is at the core of LCA’s culture and practice. For over 40 years, we have worked to advance our community’s quality of life through design. Sustainability is center to every project — every building and landscape — and to our practice itself. It extends beyond our office to our homes and communities.

Whether it’s attending an in-house lecture on green building products, collaborating with a client about daylighting technologies, or simply biking to work along the Boise River Greenbelt, we are continually searching for fresh ideas to make our work and our world a little greener.
We believe in taking responsibility for the future of our planet. Our actions and choices today have a profound impact on future generations. This means ensuring that our efforts work with our earth’s ecological systems rather than against them.
LCA has been at the forefront of creating sustainable architecture in the State of Idaho. The Ada County Courthouse, which we completed in 2002, was the first building in the State of Idaho to achieve LEED Certification. Since then we have completed numerous LEED certified and green projects.

Although many of our clients do not wish to pursue LEED certification, we still incorporate green building systems into all our designs. Several of our projects are outstanding examples of sustainable design, but are not LEED Certified.

Integrated Sustainable Design Approach

Our design approach challenges the notion that a sustainable building costs more. We use green strategies from the early stages of planning and design. Rather than adding sustainable features to a final building layout or form, our approach tests each design idea to find the right solution for the environment and the site.
